Anyone have any natural remedies for eczema to share? Maya, for the first time in over three years, has a nasty case of it all over her legs. Mostly her upper legs/thighs, but it’s spread to the front of her knees, back of her knees, and ankles. She had eczema on her chest/trunk as a baby (nine months), but hasn’t had anything since then. So weird.
She has no known allergies (did an allergy poke test when she was a baby). We’ve been giving her vitamin C (sodium ascorbate), probiotics, and flaxseed oil daily. We’ve slathered her skin with straight shea butter, olive and canola oils, and rich natural oil-based lotions.
I took her to the pediatrician today and got a prescription for a steroid cream, if it comes to that. I’d like to avoid it for as long as possible.
What I’m going to try today: coconut oil (topically, though taking it internally might help, too) and lanolin (sticky–wish me luck).
i just heard this remedy at church yesterday.
bathe child in cetaphil LOTION. for a week. supposed to work wonders. Not the cleanser the LOTION!

Hi Serina,
I was just curious how your natural remedies are working for you. Have you had any more outbreaks? I’m desperate!
Ugh, sorry Kacie! Is it you, or one of the boys? What has really worked for us is taking good fat internally (flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, and/or coconut oil) and applying one of a few things topically: Burt’s Bees Hand Salve, coconut oil, and/or lanolin. Those really do the best.
I’m sure you have access to all the non-natural remedies out there, like super greasy petroleum-based hand creams (that we have used in desperation – sometimes you have to get rid of it!) and prescription steroid cream (also have this for when it gets bad on Maya). We heat with wood, which dries our indoor air out even more than usual, so eczema really made an appearance last winter (surprisingly, on Ellery, too). Hoping to stay on top of it this winter.
I was surprised by how well Burt’s Bees Hand Salve worked. I think the Miracle Salve is similar. It contains ingredients similar to other things I’ve tried, but that particular formulation worked really well for us.
