Thermos Cooking

Inspired by this post over at The Deliberate Agrarian, and also by my Sue Gregg Breakfasts cookbook, I decided to make some thermos oatmeal last night for breakfast this morning. I grabbed my two 32 oz. stainless steel thermoses out of a moving box (yes, we still have plenty of those unpacked around here), the [...]

robina’s spicy lentils with spinach and potatoes
Posted in food on September 18, 2008 | 3 Comments »
This recipe is from my friend Robina’s food blog. (Go over and tell her to start posting again, would ya?) With her permission, I am copying and pasting it here, so my lentil loving readers can benefit (I know you’re out there). It’s an authentic Pakistani lentil and rice dish, and we loved it. Asher [...]

If you have children, you must be educated about the risks of lead and flame retardants. Here are some new articles I came across today:
From the FDA: Survey Data on Lead in Women’s and Children’s Vitamins – We use Rainbow Light, and all of our vitamins were listed on this report as containing lead.
Levels Three [...]

And it was fun! (Above you’ll see a picture, borrowed from Shawna’s website, of one of the two goats I milked this morning.) I have some great pictures of our visit to Weed Dance Farm, but we’ll have to wait until my camera batteries recharge before I can upload them. We made some new friends [...]
Rain, rain, rain. In my fireplace insert.

We had over eight inches of rain in 48 hour period this weekend. Awesome, but not awesome, you know? My husband spend the weekend splitting firewood on our rented splitter. In pouring rain. He is amazing, that man.
But please pray for our fireplace situation. Our new insert, which has only been used once and saw [...]
Baked Oatmeal Update
Posted in food on September 14, 2008 | 5 Comments »
I updated the Baked Oatmeal recipe. Specifically, the amount of milk. Upon Tricia’s recommendation, I tried it with two cups instead of one…and I liked it. It was moister – more Oatmeal, less Baked, if you know what I mean. But still with a defined soft crust. I found that I still preferred the one [...]
Bibles for Children

We would like to buy a Bible for Maya for her sixth birthday next month. She has asked for one, and now that she is reading so well, I think it’s the right time for her to have one. We already have several excellent and well-loved children’s story Bibles, so that’s covered. What I’m looking [...]
