We officially started school today. (But really, does the learning ever stop?) Maya is a first grader, and we’re going through Adventures in My Father’s World. We also started I Can Do All Things (Art), Singapore Math U.S. Edition (1A), and Writing With Ease (Year Two). We’ll start First Language Lessons (2nd grade) back up next week. We also plan to incorporate some handwork skills this fall, such as hand sewing and beginning machine sewing.
Ellery is in Pre-K, and she started The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading today. She’s also doing Singapore Math, too, but I can’t remember the name of her edition at the moment. She’s also doing I Can Do All Things, and following along as we do Adventures in My Father’s World.
Both girls are starting dance lessons at the YMCA, too! Maya starts this afternoon, and Ellery starts tomorrow. (It’s really too bad they couldn’t be back-to-back; trips to town take up so much time.) They are so very excited. We qualified for a hefty scholarship, and that made it possible. We also love how the Y’s dance program is focused on fun, positive body image, and self esteem. We want dancing to be fun, and for the girls to learn how to glorify God with their talents (not just self, as can be the case in many dance programs). The director of our local Y’s dance program even runs a class called Girls of Grace, teaching girls how to dance for God and His glory. How cool is that?
Anyone know where to get affordable ballet shoes locally? Or does anyone have a used pair to sell me? Maya wears 1-2.
Asher did very well today. He played, watched school/tried to participate, and played some more. It helps that we do everything together in the living room, so he can feel like he’s still a part of the crowd.
You sound like you are doing similar curricula as I am. I will enjoy following your blog. I am a few weeks ahead in Adventures, so check out my blog for some additional ideas each week. I used Singapore last year, but am using Horizons this year and we are also using First Language Lessons. Nice to meet you!
Love reading your blog! Ella did ballet at the Y (love those scholarships!) the last two years and totally loved it as well! We had a great experience.
Meijer has cheep little slipper/ballet shoes. Or Payless always has a ballet shoe selection for around $15 – theirs are more legit than the Meijer version. Hope that helps!
That picture is so cute! They look so big…?!
I’m so excited they are taking dance lessons! I bet they are just over the moon, excited about it. That’s really awesome about the scholarship–I’m glad that worked out. God is good. Sometimes at goodwill or salvation army you can find ballet slippers. Have you looked recently?
I’m ahead for now, but plan to take off 4-5 weeks of MFW for the baby, so not sure how many I’ll be ahead after that. =) But, for the first 7 weeks you are welcome to steal what you want. I try to post each week the projects we’ve done and if you ever need more info on any of them, just ask.
I am actually planning my second homebirth. I had three not-so-great hospital experiences, so with my last I stayed home. All worked out well because my labor was only 1 hour! I would never have made it to the hospital! So, that’s the plan this time, too. I’m typically late, the last two were 10 and 14 days overdue, so even though I’m “due” Sept 21st, my birthday, I’m not likely to deliver until a week or two later. I’m excited about having another homebirth and expect all to go smoothly.
I would love to read your birth stories and will have to do that this weekend. I don’t have mine posted on my blog because I started it a few months after my last was born. So, are you nervous about having another fast labor? I’m getting a little nervous about it. My midwife is only 30 min away, but I think I’ll still be flustered if I’m laboring quickly and she’s not there. I watched and read a ton about birthing your child alone before my last labor and probably need to do some research this time, too. My labors have cut in half with every kid so far….so I hope I don’t remain consist with that! Right now the baby is small, so I expect to go late. I have a few more weeks. Do you have pretty uneventful pregnancies?
