Well, we did it – we bought a kitchen full of IKEA Lidingo cabinets, beech butcherblock countertops, and the single basin Domsjo sink. Sink A wins! It is beautiful, and I can’t wait to use it. I have also purchased (among other things – many, many other things) a schoolhouse light that was a steal from Amazon at under $45. It should arrive today! And our new Bosch dishwasher (with leak protection!) arrives next week.
We ended up decided to go ahead and move the kitchen right next door, to the adjacent play room. It was originally intended to be a dining room, but it was really too small for a normal dining table, so it has been many things (junk, storage, craft/guest room, play room). It is what we always wanted to do, but we thought it would be easier to leave the kitchen in its current location. After considering the work (electric/plumbing verses ceiling/soffit/covering doors/new floor), we decided it would be just as much work, just different work, and we may as well go with the location we really want. The new kitchen has two big windows and gets tons of light year-round; the old kitchen is a dark closet with two doorways, one window, one breakfast bar, and a masonry chimney – dark, stuffy, crowded, and no room for cabinets!
Current status: the electric is almost done (new counter height outlets, new pendant light over sink, dishwasher hookup, stove outlet), the plumbing is next (but should be fairly straightforward as the new kitchen is directly over the utility room), along with the new ceiling (1/4″ drywall to cover the EXTREMELY textured ceiling that currently exists). Then we can finally assemble and install the cabinets, sink, oil/install countertops, lighting, etc. You know, the actual kitchen stuff!

I will post in-progress pictures soon. Right now, it’s all enclosed in plastic to keep dust out of the rest of the house, so the pictures would just be of…plastic. Not interesting.

is it silly to be happy that you chose the sink i voted for? yes, i know…. congrats on the kitchen reno. lots of fun. lots of mess. but so worth it in the end. we had the sink in the laundry room, and the fridge in the hallway, and the microwave in the mud room for a few weeks, but it’s all forgotten now! can’t wait for pictures!
LOVE it. I love my domsjo sink ( mine is a double though) and I think you’ll be happy with it. It’s a little fussy to clean the grooves along the back, but not too bad.
Can’t wait to see photos of the progress!
The good news is that the single doesn’t have any grooves! Another reason we decided to go with it. It’s a bit easier to add an extra hole for filtered water, as well.
Ah! Good thinkin’!
